Creating the first time capsule container.

Creating a container that will last for 1,000 years and preserve its contents throws up a few problems. Data on most modern materials that could be used like stainless steel and titanium only go back a few decades but the data that is available gives us a good indication of the longevity of these products.  Our contact at the British Stainless Steel Association has been a great help as has the technical department at Timet Titanium and we have narrowed our choices down to a few grades of each product. The final decision will be made once the time capsule design has been finalised and we are pleased to announce that OMC designs based in Italy will be designing the first of the 1,000 time capsules for the Founders Chamber. This design will feature in our sales brochure and its an exiting time for the whole venture. We hope that this design phase will be finished by the end of September and we will aim to get this first container manufactured soon after.

As these Time Capsules will form the funding for the Earth Pyramid we have been spending a great deal of time looking at how much each one will eventualy cost our founders.  Along with the construction costs this funding will also need to cover the costs of sending out time capsules to all the governments and indegenoues peoples along with the set up costs for the”Virtual Pyramid” that will gather contributions for the Digital Preservation Chamber. This “Virtual Pyramid” will be an online facility where people can have there thoughts, comments, blogs, pictures or even films recorded for future generations for the eventual admission into the “DP” chamber.Money raised from this part of the project will provide the funding for the Children s Chamber.

We will keep you updated on new events and as images of the time capsule design come to us we will post them on our social network sites for you to see.

We wish to take this opportunity to thank the MBA course from Bradford University’s School of Marketing for all there assistance and research which has been invaluable for our work on this part of the Earth Pyramid.

How do you build a new pyramid

A lot has happened over the past few months so we hope that this update will bring you up to date with events and give you an indication of where the Earth Pyramid is heading.

The Earth Pyramid started with a simple idea and although it’s aims are massive we have tried to keep the process of creating it as simple as possible. We have put a great deal of effort into every phase of the venture and when we have achieved a good level of support for that area we have moved onto the next. The one part of the venture that we haven’t really worked on is how we are going to pay for the pyramid’s construction. Its probably the one question that many of our supporters have also asked themselves so we are currently directing all our efforts towards this.  The time capsules that will go into the Founders’ Chamber will form the main focus of our fundraising efforts and the students on the MBA course currently running at Bradford University are contributing ideas for this phase. These “empty boxes” on there own will be of little value but our aim is to get potential purchasers to see their value in terms of the overall aims of the venture.

This unique project will provide a unique opportunity for people to contribute and these time capsules will be the one way to guarantee participation. We want the very first time capsule to be something very special so a lot of effort will go into finding someone to design the first one. The whole project has grown from small contributions of expertise so we are confident that we will get support for this phase.

We have also been in contact with the Geo polymer department at Louisiana Tech for the past couple of years and the work that they are doing on “Eco” concretes has been of great interest to us because of its possible use during the pyramid’s construction. The team at LA Tech has kindly created a video explaining the process and its “green” credentials and the video can be seen by following this link   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH492KGOMnM&feature=plcp . For further details visit their website at www.green4grey.com . The team there has done a great job and we really appreciate their support.

We will be updating this blog on a regular basis to keep you informed of this very exiting phase of the venture.  One big question that we would love your opinions on is who you would like to see represented within the founders chamber.  With only 1,000 spaces available in this chamber (website needs changing from 100 to 1,000) we need to get a wide spectrum of contributors so your input would be greatly appreciated.

Building the foundation.

Since the new website launch in November it has been an incredibly busy time for the project.  We have had some fantastic comments and its great to see that all our hard work over the past 3 years has created a site that explains the venture well.  We still have work to do regarding translating the content and adding the interactive areas but these will develop in time. Our project video is currently entered into the TED ads worth spreading competition and we hope that, if successful it will  help increase awareness on a global scale. This link  http://www.youtube.com/adsworthspreading will take you to Teds You Tube channel and there you will find the video. Raising the profile of the project is something that we haven’t spent too much time on as all our efforts have gone into clarifying the ventures aims and gathering support but once again we are sure that this will develop over time.

Guided by our discussions with Arup we have been spending time looking into the educational possibilities of the Earth Pyramid and this aspect of it has vast potential. We are currently working on a document with Arup that lays out all the areas of research for the project and this will form the basis of our future efforts. After spending so long working on the project its great to now have this fresh input from people who understand what it takes to develop a venture of this size.

The Earth Pyramid  has entered a phase where there is a lot of hard work with little to shout about so although or blog and social networks have been quiet lately, behind the scenes its still incredibly busy. We will do our best to keep you informed of our developments and please contact us if you would like any further information. It’s always great to hear from people interested in the project.

The Earth Pyramid website is finally online

It’s taken 3 years for us to reach this point but its great to have the website finished and live.  Before we continue we must say a big thank you to all the people who have helped us throughout the venture and given their time to give this ambitious idea a real chance of success.

The website is crammed with information on the many areas of the venture and as things progress we will improve  the site to provide a greater opportunity for interaction.  As you will see we have some world leading experts guiding our development and look forward to keeping you informed of events  as they happen.

From all of us here at the Earth Pyramid we thank you for visiting the site and look forward to making this an enjoyable and thought provoking venture to follow.
